The Ruger Redhawk has been in the making for over three decades, and it just keeps getting better. I had been familiar with the Redhawk ever since I heard about its introduction in 1979. I was a freshman in high school, and my only revolver at the time was the Ruger Security-Six 357 Magnum, which I loved. The 44 Magnum Redhawk looks the same, but it's bigger and has a different serial number than the Six-Safe, and I read every word of the document available to me on the new Redhawk. I was very impressed with the power and strength of the Redhawk. Newly married and with a twenty-two percent interest rate on my house and construction business, there was no way I could afford the Redhawk, but I knew Ruger was a real winner, and I knew it was too. Well, I got one.

It may take a few years, but in the short term, I've been working really well with the Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Magnum, even using it in pinball tournaments on the Gulf Coast during my 1911. let me go in 1987. I could even. to win a few games using this one action, because it slows me down and gives me a rhythm to my shooting, but, it was many years before I got my first Redhawk. Finally, in 2007, Ruger released the first version of the Redhawk with a 4.2 inch barrel, which I couldn't hold back. At this point, the Redhawk, to me, is a dual role that can work well for both hunting and concealed carry. The shorter barrel length changed the ability of the Redhawk for me, and I've owned one or more since then.

Also in 2007, after the success of the 4.2 inch 44 Magnum Redhawk, Ruger came out with a better version, similar to the 44, but chambered for the 45 Colt cartridge. Fully loaded, the 45 Colt is more powerful than the 44 Magnum; shoot heavier, larger-sized bullets at magnum velocities, and the Redhawk is capable of handling 45 Colt magnum-class loads. Last year, Ruger introduced a special version of the Redhawk for the TALO distribution group that featured a 2.75-inch magazine and round catch. The new Redhawk shown here combines the features of this six-round gun with the longer barrel of the 4.2-inch version, and adds the ability to fire 45 ACP using light bulbs. As I mentioned at the beginning of this section, the Redhawk is getting better!
The new Redhawk features a round cover frame fitted with premium quality wood grips that have been partially checked for durability. The round butt frame feels good in my hands, but for better control and comfort, I prefer the Hogue rubber grip and the one provided with the Redhawk 4.2 inch square-butt when shooting heavy weights. . The rifles are the Ruger familiar rear and front adjustable. The front sight is black with a red insert.

SA is the pull of a single action trigger. DA is the double-action trigger pull. The height includes the sights, which are placed in the area of the middle height.
I really like the look and feel of this new Redhawk. It fits comfortably in my hand and the round butt makes it easier to hide. The wooden grips hold the six-gun securely, and the big gun is well-balanced, lighter than the 44.8 ounces shown on my scale. The double-action trigger pull is very smooth, and the drag resistance is rated at ten pounds lighter. The single-action bow offered is light, but a little heavier than I'd like at seven pounds. Front visibility is clear in most lighting conditions, and the rear's white outline doesn't get in the way of a decent eye picture. A heavy barrel allows the six-gun to hang well for accurate shooting, but the weight makes the gun move faster. Although the Redhawk is not a handgun, it can be concealed in a suitable holster, such as the earlier Simply Rugged holster shown here. While rummaging through one of my holster boxes, I ran across this holster that Rob Leahy made before calling his "Simply Rugged" holsters. Rob made this holster for the S&W Mountain Gun in early 2004 and it fits the Redhawk well. This holster is a pancake type and does a wonderful job of concealing a full size gun, and when the need arises, a proper 45 revolver is better for social work than a 380 handgun.

"Overbuilt" is a word the Redhawk likes. The cylinder walls are thick and the locking grooves are tight. The cylinder is held in the rear center and the crane is locked to the frame, including the bolt that holds the cylinder in place. Like all Ruger double-action revolvers, the Redhawk has a solid frame on both sides and no side plates. This is probably the most powerful double-action revolver ever made, except for Ruger's Super Redhawk. This new Redhawk strikes the perfect balance between power, strength, and portability, and will hold all and sundry 45 ACP+P and 45 Colt+P cartridges, including magnum-class published loads. This new Ruger Redhawk is a great companion when hunting or fishing in areas where big bears are present, and can also serve as a primary hunting hand, with a 4.2 inch barrel that allows as a hand grip for all areas. .
I shot the Redhawk with a variety of 45 ACP and 45 Colt cartridges, from standard pressure 45 ACP to +P+ loads, and standard pressure and heavy 45 Colt Magnum loads. The light cartridges are easy and quick to load and unload 45 ACP ammo. 45 ACP ammo should be used with light cartridges, and 45 Auto Rim ammo will not work. The real issue they faced was that the two Buffalo Bore loads were a bit stiffer than all the other loads, just like the other Buffalo Bore loads. The first frames show a light stroke, even after attempts to change. These are very old ammunition and may be loaded with more powerful rifle cartridges; I don't know. Buffalo Bore's responsibility is clear every time. All other ammunition was fired and safely removed.
The Redhawk's cylinder is long enough to handle the 320 and 335 bullet weights in the 45 Colt, giving the Redhawk power over the 454 Casull. Justice is great; there are two mechanical justice and labor justice. The handling quality and good sights make it easy for the shooter to use the Redhawk's accuracy to his advantage, and the smooth trigger pull makes it easy to get shots on target. target. This is perhaps the most practical Redhawk built today, offering power, accuracy, reliability, and portability in the best possible way.
